Name: AT-Dick's Creek Gap to Whiteoak Stomp
Distance: 7.0
Difficulty: Difficult
Total Climbing Elevation: 1,791
Type: Out & Back
Notes: The weather was great with sunny skies and warm, late-winter temperatures. The Georgia Appalachian Trail Club continues to maintain this trail in excellent condition, but it still has plenty of rocks and roots in places. It didn't take long for us to shed our jackets for the steep, 1.5-mile climb beginning at 1.1 miles. There were frequent views of the surrounding mountains and valleys as we hiked. The highlight of the hike was a short bushwhack up to Whiteoak Stomp. This off-trail climb did satisfy our curiosity, but for some reason our lady hikers felt the urge to "stomp" around the hilltop upon arrival. Today, we passed just a single couple of thru-hikers from Florida hiking north toward Katahdin. Today's Hikers: Roger Willis, Shelia Getman, Pam Hembree, Terre Pratt, Linda Shultz, Betty Smith & Mike Bell
