Name: Glassy Mtn Trail - Glassy Mtn Rd to Davis Gap Rd
Distance: 4.3
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Total Climbing Elevation: 807
Type: One Way
Notes: Overall, the weather, shuttle, trail conditions and west to east direction we hike worked out quite well. This was a moderately difficult hike based on the initial climb up Glassy Mtn Road to the fire tower and two steep descents hiking down the east ridge of Glassy Mtn. The woodland trail sections east of the fire tower were in good condition and showed some evidence of ongoing maintenance, we suspect by mountain bikers. While the mountain bike use of the trail does has some rutting and high potential for large washouts from heavy rains, lack of any switchbacks and little drainage control, the trail was in surprisingly good shape. There were very few roots and rocks with a quite comfortable soft leaf or pine needle base in many sections of the trail. We did see a few Trillium as we began our descent from Glassy Mtn and during the last mile of the trail. There were also some nice winter views to the north and south through the trees along the trail. As noted by other hikers, access up the fire tower is prohibited, but there were still some nice views to the west and north from the open field at the fire tower. Glassy Mtn. Rd is in good condition with limited parking along the road as it makes its final turn up the mountain. Today's Hikers: Beth Hawkins, Charles Hawkins, Renee Corbett, Gerald Richardson, Jenny Bell, Mary Smith, Matt Henderson & Toby and Mike Bell
