Name: Beech Creek Trail
Distance: 5.6
Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult
Total Climbing Elevation: 1,857
Type: Out & Back
Notes: Definitely a technically challenging, but fun hike. Despite the rocky and occasionally overgrown conditions and a steep initial climb, the trail is in fair condition. We did have to make 3 shallow water crossings, but with the fairly low flows, we crossed with little or no wet feet. The rewards are a beautiful surrounding forest with almost continuous views and sounds of Beech Creek. In addition, with a bit of effort and careful footing, you get to enjoy the 40-foot Bull Cove Falls and 150-foot High Falls. We saw a few wildflowers along the trail, some we haven't seen this year. A 7.2 mile/2,200-foot elevation gain version of this hike around Big Scaly Mtn. may be more desirable in the winter which also eliminates doubling back on the same trail. TODAY'S HIKERS: Jack Tredman, Shelia Getman, Roger Willis, Ken Pardue, Claudia Pardue, Heather Wall & Toby & Mike Bell.
