Name: Appalachian Trail - Indian Grave Gap to Tray Mountain Shelter
Distance: 6.9
Difficulty: Moderate
Total Climbing Elevation: 1,650
Type: Out & Back
Notes: For a mid-summer day, the weather was good with cloudy skies and temperatures in the lower 70's. Access to the trailhead at Indian Grave Gap via FA 283 was a bit tough due to numerous large road ruts, but good after passing the High Shoals Fall parking area. The AT itself was good, but was a bit rocky and rooty in places, but no blowdowns. Views from the several overlooks were limited to low clouds , but did improve somewhat as we hiked back. We did see a variety of mushrooms today and a few wildflowers. Overall it was a good hike, moderately difficult due to the continual climb to Tray Mountain with a few short steeper, more difficult trail sections . Today's hikers: Don Pratt, Beth Hawkins, Jenny Bell, Matt Henderson & Toby, Jack Treadman, Bobbie Broussard, Renee Corbett, Alicia Morris, Pam Hembree, Cindi Hansen, Terre Pratt, Mike Bell, Heather Wall & Toby and Jane Voss.
