TRAIL INFO. – Our hike today was on the southern-most trail in our range. Located west of Toccoa, GA, the trail is in the Lake Russell Wildlife Management Area. Directions: Take Hwy. 123 west out of Toccoa and turn onto Ayersville Road which is near the entrance to Patterson Pump, Inc. Follow this road for less than a mile and turn left onto F.S. Road 87. Drive about 2 miles past the game checking station and look for the trail head on the right. Another beautiful hiking day! Clear skies and breezy with temps ranging from 32-48 degrees F. This is a very nice woodland trail with nice views of Dick’s Creek and Broad River. (Rolling but moderately easy) |
The trail is well-marked with signs at each end and blue markers along the way. |
Early in the hike, we pass by some nice views of Dick’s Creek. |
It is a very nice walk in the woods on a well-marked and maintained trail! |
A beautiful day in the Mountains. |
More nice rushing water! |
At this point on the trail you have to tip-toe along rocks (for a short distance) on the edge of the river . |
Here, we stand on the bridge at the end of the trai. |
The most unusual feature along the trail is this hemlock tree that has grown into a circle! |
