Appalachian Trail – Woody Gap, GA to the Gooch Mountain Shelter.

HIKERS – John Bellamy, Dave Haslett, Jack Jacobi, Steve Jordan, Hayward Marshall, Wayne Miller, John Mooneyham, Bob Presley, Tony Presley, Dan Ross, Doug Russell, and Bob Thompson.

TRAIL INFO. – Our hike today was on the Appalachian Trail starting at Woody Gap, GA. going south to the Gooch Mountain Shelter. We met 8 thru-hikers headed for Maine!

Directions: Take Hwy. 129 N from Cleveland, GA for about 15 mi. then turn left at Turner’s Corner and travel several miles to Hwy 60 (rock pile) turn right and drive to the top of the mountain at Woody Gap. Another beautiful hiking day! Mostly cloudy with temperatures ranging in the mid-40’s with heavy morning fog. Total hike today – 10 miles.

Birds identified: Pileated Woodpecker, Mourning Dove, Dark-eyed Junco, Raven, White-breasted Nuthatch,and Downy Woodpecker.
