HIKERS – Jack Jacobi, Steve Jordan, Hayward Marshall, Wayne Miller, Doug Russell, and Jack Slaton.
On this election day, several of our regulars work at the polls and missed the hike, but this hearty group braved the rain and fog and hit the trail. TRAIL INFO. – Our hike today was on the Bartram Trail starting at The trail crossing on Hale Ridge Rd. near the GA/NC border Scaly Mountain area. It was not a good day for views due to heavy fog and occasional rain. Directions: Take Hwy. 441 N from Clayton, GA through Dillard, GA and turn right onto GA 246 / NC 106 toward Highlands, NC. Drive about 7 miles and turn right at the Scaly Mtn. Ski Slope. Go a couple of miles and turn left onto Hale Ridge road. Drive a mile or so and you will see the trail crossing sign on your right. Another beautiful hiking day! Cloudy with fog and occasional rain. Total hike today – 7 miles. |
Starting point for today’s hike. The sign needs a little work! |
We head off into the fog! |
Early into the hike, we passed by this nice waterfalls. |
The Bartram trai is nicely maintained in this section with foot-bridges over each creek. |
There are nice rock outcroppings along the way. |
This the the marker at the base of Rabun Bald. We decided to turn around here since there was very poor visiblilty. |
Views were very limited but it was still a beautiful day for a hike!. |
