TRAIL INFO. – Our hike today was on the Appalachian Trail starting at the Byron Herbert Reese Park near Neels Gap, GA. We hiked the Reese connector trail up to the A.T. intersection and hiked around Blood Mtn. on the Freeman Trail to Bird Gap. Then from Bird Gap on the A.T. up to the summit of Blood Mtn. (the highest elevation on the Georgia portion of the A.T.) Directions: Our hike today began at the Byron Herbert Reese parking lot about a half mile past the Walasi-Yi store on Hwy 129 / 19 North of Cleveland, GA. Fauna identified: Vireo, Pileated Woodpecker, White Breasted Nuthatch, Carolina Wren, Dark-eyed Junco. Another beautiful hiking day! Fair skies with temps. ranging from the upper 20’s to the low 50’s F. Total hike approx. 8 miles. |
