3/30/04 Lick Log Creek, SC

TRAIL INFO. – Our hike today was on the Chattooga River Trail / Bartram Trail starting at the parking lot on the SC side of the HWY 28 Bridge. We hiked up to Lick Log Creek Falls and just beyond to the intersection of the Foothills Trail.

Directions: Take Hwy. 28 between Highlands, NC and Walhalla, SC and drive to the Hwy. 28 Bridge (Russell Bridge) and park in the parking lot on the SC side of the bridge.

Fauna identified: Red Salamander, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Black and White Warbler, Pileated Woodpecker, White Breasted Nuthatch, Carolina Wren, Robin.

Another beautiful hiking day! Cloudy with morning rain, becoming partly cloudy with lows in the 40’s and highs in the 50’s F. Total hike approx. 8 miles.

The Chattooga River Trail comes close to the river in several places.

We have hiked along the river many times but this is the first Canada Goose that we have ever seen on the river!

This is the lower falls on Lick Log Creek which empties into the Chattooga.

The upper falls on Lick Log Creek.

The intersection of the Chattooga, Bartram and Foothills Trail.

The Chattooga River Trail has many giant White Pines along the way.

The early Spring wildflowers are starting to bloom. (Halberd-leaved Violet)
