Lick Log Creek – Chattooga River, SC

March 30, 2004

HIKERS – Jack Jacobi, Wayne Miller, John Mooneyham, Bob Presley, Tony Presley, Dan Ross, Doug Russell, Bob Thompson.

TRAIL INFO. – Our hike today was on the Chattooga River Trail / Bartram Trail starting at the parking lot on the SC side of the HWY 28 Bridge. We hiked up to Lick Log Creek Falls and just beyond to the intersection of the Foothills Trail.

Directions: Take Hwy. 28 between Highlands, NC and Walhalla, SC and drive to the Hwy. 28 Bridge (Russell Bridge) and park in the parking lot on the SC side of the bridge.

Fauna identified: Red Salamander, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Black and White Warbler, Pileated Woodpecker, White Breasted Nuthatch, Carolina Wren, Robin.

Another beautiful hiking day! Cloudy with morning rain, becoming partly cloudy with lows in the 40’s and highs in the 50’s F. Total hike approx. 8 miles.

We have hiked along the river many times but this is the first Canada Goose that we have ever seen on the river!
