Appalachian Trail – Woody Gap to Henry Gap

November 30, 2004

HIKERS – Phil Brownrigg, John Hires, Wayne Miller, Bob Presley, Bob Thompson.

TRAIL INFO. – Today, we hiked on Appalachian Trail from Woody Gap northward to Henry Gap. We had lunch at the gap and returned. We rated the hike moderately difficult with considerable elevation change. Total hike today – 7.4 miles.

Directions: Take Hwy. 129 N from Cleveland, GA for about 15 mi. then turn left at Turner’s Corner and travel several miles to Hwy 60 (rock pile) turn right and drive to the top of the mountain at Woody Gap.

Another great day for a hike! Cloudy, misty at times, cold all day with temps. in the low 40’s.

Fauna identified were : White Tail Deer, Junco, Pileated Woodpecker, White breasted Nuthatch, and Chickadee. A couple of flowers were seen. Heart leafed Aster, and a blackberry blooming! Nov. 30th!
