TRAIL INFO. – Today’s hike was on the Lady Slipper Trail in the Chattahoochee National Forest Lake Russell Recreation Area near Cornelia, GA – Total – 7.2 miles. Directions: Take Ga 365/U.S. 23 North from Gainesville past Cornelia to Hwy 197. Turn right for approximately 3 miles until dead-end. Right on Dicks Hill Parkway for approx. ¾ mile. Turn left onto the paved Lake Russell Road. . Another great day for a hike! Partly cloudy, and cool with temps. ranging from the mid 20’s to the mid 40’s F. BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Great Blue Heron, Dark-eyed Junco,Turkey Vulture, Black-capped Chickadee, Carolina Wren, White-breasted Nuthatch, Pileated Woodpecker, Robin. . |

 After a half-mile walk, we arrive at the trail head. |

 Here we encounter a trail obstruction. Jet has no problem with it! |
 A colorful patch of lichen called British Soldiers (Cladonia cristatella) |
 Appropriate for the Christmas season, we find this American Holly (Ilex opaca). |
 This cove at the upper end of the lake was iced over. |
