TRAIL INFO. – Today’s hike was on the Appalachian Trail starting at Woody Gap GA and hiking beyond Gooch Gap and back.

This portion of the Appalachian Trail includes lots of flat walking along ridges but it also features a couple of nice mountains to climb giving it a moderate difficulty rating. It features nice mountain views and a beautiful walk through the forest filled primarily with Oak, Poplar and Hickory.

Total round trip hiking distance – 8.0 mi.

Directions: Take Hwy. 129 N from Cleveland, GA for about 15 mi. then turn left at Turner’s Corner and travel several miles to Hwy 60 (rock pile) turn right and drive to the top of the mountain at Woody Gap.

Another great day for a hike! Mostly cloudy with temperatures ranging from the low to mid 50’s F.

BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Tufted Titmouse, Chickadee, Dark-eyed Junco, White-breasted Nuthatch, American Crow, Black Vulture, Pileated Woodpecker.
