TRAIL INFO. – Today’s hike was on the Bartram Trail starting at Hale Ridge Rd. in GA and hiking to the Osage Overlook in NC and back. A very nice section of the Bartram trail with nice mountain views on a well-maintained trail. Total round trip hiking distance – 7.5 mi. Directions: Take Hwy. 441 N from Clayton, GA through Dillard, GA and turn right onto GA 246 / NC 106 toward Highlands, NC. Drive about 7 miles and turn right at the Scaly Mtn. Ski Slope. Go a couple of miles and turn left onto Hale Ridge road. Drive a mile or so and you will see the trail crossing sign on your right. Today’s hike started on the left side of the road 25 yards beyong the trail sign. Another great day for a hike! Fair with temperatures ranging from the mid-40’s to the mid 60’s F. BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Raven, American Crow, Pileated Woodpecker, Carolina Wren, Ruffed Grouse, Northern Cardinal, Dark-eyed Junco, Tuffed Titmouse. |
