Neels Gap to Wolf Laurel Top – Appalachian Trail – GA

Today, we hiked from Byron Herbert Reese Park to Wolf Laurel Top and the Appalachian Trail. The terrain is moderately mountainous with outstanding views. . Our lunchtime destination was Wolf Laurel Top and the views are awesome as usual. .

Hiking distance today – 8.2 miles

HIKERS – Don Alducin, Sharada Alducin, Melissa Anderson,Phil Brownrigg, Ray Cowan, Jack Jacobi, Steve Jordan, Dick Metzgar, Leigh Ann Miller, Wayne Miller, Bruce Reynolds, Doug Russell, Bob Presley, Donna Presley, Tony Presley, Bob Thompson, David Whitaker, and Geri Whitaker.

TRAIL INFO. – This is an excellent hike on mountainous terrain that starts about a half mile beyond Neels Gap and joins the Appalachian Trail at Mountain Crossings at the Walasi-Yi store..

Directions: Take US 19 and 129, north from Cleveland, GA and drive approximately 18 miles to the Byron Herbert Reese Park just a half mile past Neels Gap and the Walasi-Yi Center.

Another great day for a hike! Partly cloudy with temperatures ranging from the mid 60’s to the mid 70’s.

WILDFLOWERS IN BLOOM: Pale Jewel Weed, Ladies Thumb, Indian Plantain, White Wood Aster, Assorted Asters, White Snake Root, Phlox, Heal All, Golden Rod, Mountain Gentian, Wood Sorrel, Spurge, Black Eyed Susan, Rudbeckia, Purple False Foxglove, Horse Balm, Woodland Sun Flower, Virgin Bower & Joe Pye Weed. FLOWERS IN FRUIT: Solomon Seal, Indian Cucumber Root.

BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Carolina Wren, Crow, Blue Jay, Cardinal, Pilieated Woodpecker, Towhee, Carolina Chickadee, Turkey Vulture, Junco & Rose Breasted Grosbeak..

Other Fauna : a very large Black Snake
