| Today’s hike was on the Jacks Knob Trail near Brasstown Bald to Chattahoochee Gap and back. The terrain is rated moderate due to significant elevation change.
HIKERS – Phil Brownrigg, , Wayne Miller, Dan Ross, and Bob Thompson. TRAIL INFO. – A very nice trail that connects to the A.T. with nice views and the spring that is reported to be the headwaters of the mighty Chattahoochee River.. Directions: Trail access – Take GA 75 north through Helen to GA 180; turn left (west) onto GA 180 (also GA 66); go 6 miles to the intersection of Alt. 180 and park at the parking lot. From here you can hike up the mountain to Brasstown Bald, but, today we hiked the opposite direction and connected with the Appalachian Trail and continued past Chattahoochee Gap. Another great day for a hike! Mostly cloudy with blowing snow and strong winds – temperatures in the low 30’s F. WILDFLOWERS IN BLOOM: None! .
