| This week, we returned to the Bartram Trail in Rabun Co. GA and hiked out-and-back from Bob Gap to Big Rock. Three of our hikers (John Ray, Dick Metzgar and Pom Sinnock) did trail maintanence work on this section today and hiked point to point from Bob Gap to Warwoman Dell.
HIKERS – Melissa Anderson, John Bellamy, June Bellamy, Dick Metzgar, Wayne Miller, Donna Presley, Tony Presley, John Ray, Dan Ross, Doug Russell, Pom Sinnock, Dave Standard, and Carole Wintle. TRAIL INFO. – This portion of the Bartram Trail provides a very nice hike through the hills and mountain ridges in the northeast corner of the state. There are lots of nice mountain views all along the trail (especially in the wintertime). The Bartram Trail has a reputation of being well-maintained and today was no exception. Three of our group worked as a trail maintanence crew today from Bob Gap to Warwoman Dell. Today’s hiking distance – approx. 8.6 miles Directions: Take Warwoman Road 5.9 miles from Clayton and turn right on Sandy Ford Road. Go 1.2 miles and turn right on Pool Creek Road. Drive 0.9 miles to Bob Gap. Another great day for a hike – Mostly cloudy and cool.Temperatures from the low 30’s to low 40’s F. BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Pileated Woodpecker, Chickadee, Pine warbler, and Ruby-Crowned Kinglet, Crow. |
