This week, we hiked on the Bartram Trail from Sandy Ford Rd. to Laurel Branch plus the short side trail to Dick’s Creek Falls. An out and back hike of 11 miles.
HIKERS – Melissa Anderson, John Bellamy, June Bellamy, Phil Brownrigg, Bill Hunt, Dick Metzgar, Wayne Miller, Bruce O’Connor, Jeanne O’Connor, Dan Ross, Pom Sinnock, Dave Standard, Bob Thompson, David Whitaker, Geri Whitaker, and Carole Wintle. TRAIL INFO. – This section of the Bartram Trail is in excellent condition. It is a beautiful hike including views of the Chattooga River and Dick’s Creek Falls by way of a short side trail. It includes lots of flat terrain along with some rolling hills. Directions: Take Warwoman Road out of Clayton, GA for 5.9 miles and turn right on Sandy Ford Rd. and continue 0.6 miles and turn left on a concrete bridge across Warwoman Creek. Continue 3.3 miles down Sandy Ford Road and cross the ford of Dick’s Creek and continue 0.3 miles to park. Another great day for a hike – Cloudy and cool.Temperatures from the low to the upper 40’s F. Hiking distance approx. 11 miles BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Pileated Woodpecker, Carolina Wren, Chickadee, Pine Warbler, Ruby Crowned Kinglet, White Breasted Nuthatch, and Brown Headed Nuthatch.. |
