4/24/07 Bartram Trail – Courthouse Gap – GA

TRAIL INFO. – This is a beautiful section of the Bartram Trail that includes two very nice waterfalls and lots of lush forest land with abundant wildflowers.

The trail is moderately hilly.

Directions: Take Warwoman road out of Clayton for .8 miles, and you’ll see a sign for Camp Pinnacle. Take a left turn off Warwoman Road onto Pinnacle Dr. Follow that road all the way, 1.1 miles, passing the camp, to Courthouse Gap Road. Take a right, and go .2 miles until you see a gravel road, with parking areas beneath power lines. Park there, and walk up that road about a tenth of a mile, over one culvert, until you see the trail heading left, up some rock steps, just before a second culvert.

Another great day for a hike! Partly to mostly cloudy with a light shower after lunch. Temperatures from the low 60’s to low 70’s.

WILDFLOWERS IN BLOOM:Flame Azalea, Pinxter Flower, Catesby’s Trillium, Vasey’s Trillium, Foam Flower, Sweet Shrub, Dog Hobble, Yellow Root, Rue Anemone, Meadow Rue, Robin’s Plantain, Round-leafed Purple Violet, Yellow Violet, Lobed Violet, Bird’s-foot Violet, Halberd-leafed Violet, Star Chickweed, Bluets, Dogwood, Rattlesnake Weed, Wild Ginger, Wild Geranium, Yellow Star Grass, Cinquefoil, Hearts-a-bursting, Perfoliated Bellwort, Golden Alexander, Green and Gold, Dwarf Crested Iris, Iris verna, and Hooked Buttercup. .

BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Pileated woodpecker, Redbellied woodpecker, Carolina wren, Chickadee, Redeyed Vireo, Wood Thrush, Northern Cardinal, Blue Jay, American Crow, Tufted Titmouse and Turkey Vulture
