Today’s hike was on the Bartram Trail from the Osage Mountain Overlook to Scaly Mountain plus a short loop on the trail near Osage overlook.

TRAIL INFO. – This portion of the Bartram Trail starts at Osage Mountain Overlook on Highway 106 between Dillard, GA and Highlands, NC. It is a steady climb up to the summit of Scaly Mountain and the rock faces there give some very nice views of the NC and GA mountains. Directions: Osage Overlook is 5.7 miles west of Highlands on NC Hwy. 106. Or from Dillard, GA turn right on GA 246 which becomes NC 106 and drive approx. 9 miles to Osage Overlook on the right. Another great day for a hike! Sunny and mild with temperatures from the low 60’s to mid 70’s F. Hiking distance – 6 miles WILDFLOWERS IN BLOOM: Grass of Parnassus, Heart-leafed Aster, White Wood’s Aster, White Snakeroot, Lobelia, Southern Harebells, Healall, Goldenrod, Flowering Spurge, Hawkweed, Starry Campion, Hog Peanut, Whorled Coreopsis, Mountain Mint, Bushy Aster, Indian Plaintain, Phlox and Mountain Gentian. BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Blue Jay, White Breasted Nuthatch, Crow, Towhee, Pileated Woodpecker |
