| Today’s hike was on the Tennessee Rock Trail in Black Rock Mountain State Park near Clayton, GA. Only seven O.F.H.C. hikers braved the weather and not one of them melted! Total hike approx. 3 miles.
HIKERS – Phil Brownrigg, Chuck Crisp, Wayne Miller, Dan Ross, Doug Russell, John Shauger, Pom Sinnock. TRAIL INFO. – The Tennessee Rock Trail is a beautiful 2.2 mile loop trail with nice views on a clear day. Today was not exactly clear! The group also hiked down to the visitors center at the State Park. Directions: The Tennessee Rock Trail is located in Black Rock Mountain State Park on Black Rock Mountain Parkway, 3 miles north of Clayton, GA off U.S. Hwy. 441. Look for brown directional signs in Mountain City. Another great day for a hike! Cloudy with rain and fog and temperatures in the low 60’s. Hiking distance – 3 miles WILDFLOWERS IN BLOOM: Mountain Gentian, Indian Plaintain, White Woods Aster, Heart-leafed Aster, Bushy Aster, Goldenrod, Rosebay Rhododendron, and Witch Hazel. BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Dark-eyed Junco, Mockingbird, Blue Jay, American Crow and Red-shouldered Hawk. |
