Since we changed our hike day to Monday this week, this gave us 53 hikes during 2007! For the first time ever, no hikes were cancelled during the year for bad weather! Today’s hike was on the Smith Creek Trail in the Unicoi State Park, near Helen, GA. We hiked from the Little Brook Campground to Anna Ruby Falls and back. Total hike approx. 10 miles.
HIKERS – Beth McDonald, Dick Metzgar, Wanda Miller, Wayne Miller, Joe Raguckas, Dan Ross, Vic Robson, Pom Sinnock TRAIL INFO. – The Smith Creek Trail is a nice 5 mile woodland trail that leads from Little Brook Campground in Unicoi State Park to beautiful Anna Ruby Falls. Directions: Just north of Helen, GA turn right onto Hwy 356 and drive past the lake and take the first left and drive a half mile or so and look for the Little Brook Campground sign. Another great day for a hike! Mostly sunny and cool. Temperatures ranged from the high 20s to high 50s F. Hiking distance – 10 miles Difficulty – Moderate with rolling hills. WILDFLOWERS IN BLOOM: none BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Pileated woodpecker, Hairy woodpecker. |
