Today’s hike was on the Chattooga River Trail from trail facility near the highway 76 bridge on the border of GA/SC out 4.7 miles and back and a short .4 mile round trip out to Bull Sluice on the river. Hiking distance 9.8 miles round trip.

TRAIL INFO. – This portion of the Chattooga River Trail is in excellent shape with only one large newly fallen tree across the trail. Directions: From Clayton, GA, take Hwy. 76 east to the SC state line (Chattooga River) and park at the trailside facility. The famous Bull Sluice rapids (class 5) can be viewed from this park (.2 miles). Another great day for a hike! Mostly cloudy with temperatures ranging from the low 50’s to low 60’s. Hiking distance – 9.8 miles Difficulty – Some hills but nothing extreme. WILDFLOWERS IN BLOOM: Trailing Arbutus, Rue Anemone, Purple Violet and Green and Gold BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Phoebe, Carolina Chickadee, Pileated Woodpecker, Crow, Pine Warbler, Black Capped Chickadee, Carolina Wren, Peewee, Red Eyed Vireo, Oven Bird. |
