| Today’s hike was on the Appalachian Trail from Woody Gap to Gooch Gap. We met 34 thru hikers headed for Mt. Katahdin Maine! Some of the states represented today were California, Missouri, Illinois, Maine, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, New York, Washington, D.C., Georgia, Virginia, among others. Our hiking distance today was 7.2 miles round trip.
HIKERS – Robert Anderson, John Bellamy, Phil Brownrigg, Russell Burken, Greta Driggers, Pam Euliss, Bill Hunt, Jack Jacobi, Linda Johnson, Dick Metzgar, Wanda Miller, Wayne Miller, Bruce O’Connor, Jeanne O’Connor, Bob Presley, Donna Presley, Tony Presley, Joe Raguckas, Vic Robson, Dan Ross, Doug Russell, Pom Sinnock, Faye Sisson, David Whitaker,Geri Whitaker, Carole Wintle. TRAIL INFO. – This portion of the Appalachian Trail is in excellent shape and features plenty of hills and rock cliffs and beautiful mountain views. Directions: Take Hwy. 129 N from Cleveland, GA for about 15 mi. then turn left at Turner’s Corner and travel several miles to Hwy 60 (rock pile) turn right and drive to the top of the mountain to the A.T. crossing at Woody Gap. Park on the left and hike southward. Another great day for a hike! Mostly cloudy and chilly with temperatures ranging from the low to mid 40’s Hiking distance – 7.2 miles Difficulty – Moderately difficult with lots of elevation change. WILDFLOWERS IN BLOOM: None!
