The Bartram Trail Warwoman Dell to Courthouse Gap, GA

Today’s hike was on the Bartram Trail in Rabun County, GA. Starting at Warwoman Dell, we hiked to Courthouse Gap and back. Total hike today – 7.4 miles.

HIKERS – John Bellamy, Phil Brownrigg, Greta Driggers, Dave Hinson, Jack Jacobi, Deena Johns, Wayne Miller, Donna Presley, Tony Presley, Vic Robson, Doug Russell and Pom Sinnock.

TRAIL INFO. – This is a very beautiful section of the Bartram Trail. The hike brings you past two very nice waterfalls. First is Becky Branch Falls, the smaller of the two but a very pretty falls. Next is Martin Creek Falls which has a nice viewing platform for the roaring waterfall. Then, the trail leads through a nice forest with mature hardwoods, Rhododendron, Giant White Pines and Hemlocks. The terrain is moderately difficult due to the elevation changes but what do you expect in the beautiful North Georgia Mountains?

Directions: Take Highway 884 East from Clayton, GA for 5 miles or so on Warwoman Road and look for the Warwoman Dell sign on the right and turn right and park in the first parking area. Walk a short distance up the road and you will see the trail leading to the right. Follow the yellow trail markers.

Another great day for a hike! Fair, with temperatures ranging from the mid 50’s to upper 60’s F.

WILDFLOWERS IN BLOOM: Doghobble, Yellowroot, Rue Anemone, Heart Leaf Alexander, Buttercup, Foam Flower, Halberd-leaf Violet, Star Chickweed, Robins Plantain, Dwarf Iris (verna), Pinxter Azalea, Birdsfoot Violet, Carrion Flower, Bellwort, Partridge Berry, Star Chickweed, Jack In The Pulpit, Bluet, Purple Violet, Fraser Magnolia, Cinquefoil, Pussytoes, Yellow Stargrass, Horse-sugar, Vaseys Trillium.

BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Black Throated BlueWarbler, Cardinal, Carolina Wren, Bluejay, Tufted Titmouse, Red-Eyed Vireo, Pilated Woodpecker, Towhee.
