Bartram Trail – Bob Gap to Dick’s Creek Falls – GA

Today’s hike started at Bob Gap on the Bartram Trail in Rabun County, GA. We hiked to Dick’s Creek Falls and back.
Hiking distance approximately 8.2 miles.

TRAIL INFO. – A very nice portion of the Bartram Trail. Mostly gentle hills and nice views including Dick’s Creek Falls which empties into the “Wild and Scenic” Chattooga River. Generally very well maintained. Today we found a couple of trees down across the trail after a recent storm had passed through the area.

Difficulty rating – Moderate with some hills – nothing extreme.

Directions: Take Warwoman Road 5.9 miles from Clayton and turn right on Sandy Ford Road. Go 1.2 miles and turn right on Pool Creek Road. Drive 0.9 miles to the trail crossing at Bob Gap. There is a small pull-over for parking.

Another great day for a hike! Fair to partly cloudy, with temperatures ranging from the upper 60’s to the mid 80’s F.

WILDFLOWERS IN BLOOM: Partridge Berry, Black Berry, Dewberry, Carolina Rhododendron, Indian Physic, Flowering Spurge, Mountain Laurel, Wild Blueberry, Tall Bluet, Daisy Fleabane, Yellow Stargrass. Solomon’s Seal, False Solomon’s Seal, Pea Legume, Flame Azalea, Viburnum, Racemed Milkwort, Rattlesnake Weed, Dog Hobble, Native Hydrangea, American Euonymus, Sweet Shrub, Japanese Honeysuckle, Indian Cucumber Root, Ragwort, Galax.

BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Red Eyed Vireo, Crow, Oven Bird, Red Start, Towhee, Chipping Sparrow, Black and White Warbler, Pileated Woodpecker, Black Throated Blue Warbler, Summer Tananger, Pine Warbler, Rose Breasted Grosbeak, Crested Flycatcher, Hooded Warbler, Acadian Flycatcher, Nuthatch, Black Throated Green Warbler, Red Bellied Woodpecker, Scarlet Tananger, Red Shouldered Hawk, Titmouse, Flicker, Turkey Vulture.
