Today’s hike was on the Bartram Trail starting at Warwoman Dell hiking to Pinnacle Knob and back. .
HIKERS – John Bellamy, June Bellamy, Phil Brownrigg, Pam Euliss, Dick Metzgar, Dave Hinson, Bruce O’Connor, Jeanne O’Connor, Don Preece, Donna Presley, Tony Presley, Vic Robson, Dan Ross, David Whitaker, Geri Whitaker. TRAIL INFORMATION – A beautiful portion of the Bartram Trail is in Rabun County, GA. The hike from Warwoman Dell takes you past two beautiful waterfalls (Becky Branch and Martin Creek) as you head up the trail toward Courthouse Gap. Just before Courthouse Gap, you intersect the side trail to the left that leads up to Pinnacle Knob. We took the side trail up to the knob. This trail is extremely steep but not too long and the reward for the climb is a breathtaking view of the north Georgia and North Carolina mountains. We rate the hike moderately strenuous due to lots of elevation changes. Directions: Take Highway 884 East (Warwoman Road) from Clayton, GA for 5 miles or so and look for the Warwoman Dell sign on the right and turn right and park in the first parking area. Walk a short distance up the road and you will see the trail leading to the right. Follow the yellow trail markers. Another great day for a hike! Partly Cloudy with temperatures ranging from the upper 30’s to mid 60’s degrees F. Hiking distance – 8 miles. FLOWERS IN BLOOM: Trailing Arbutus, Round-leaved Yellow Violet and Halberd-leaved Violet. BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Crow, Chipping Sparrow, Carolina Wren, Yellow Throated Vireo, Tufted Titmouse, Red Eyed Vireo, Black Capped Chickadee, Carolina Chickadee, Phoebe, Downy Woodpecker, Pileated Woodpecker, Junco, Pine Warbler. |
