| This week’s hike was on the Bartram Trail from Warwoman Dell to Pinnacle Knob and back. Located in Rabun County, GA.

Trail Info: Parking at Warwoman Dell, this portion of the Bartram Trail takes you northward past Becky Branch Falls and Martin Creek Falls to a point a quarter mile or so before Courthouse Gap. There, the trail intersects the Pinnacle Knob trail where we turned left and hiked to the summit of Pinnacle Mt. for some spectacular views of the GA and NC mountains. Total hiking distance today – 8 miles R.T. It is a mostly strenuous hike due to elevation changes. Directions:Take Highway 884 East (Warwoman Road) from Clayton, GA for 5 miles or so and look for the Warwoman Dell sign on the right and turn right and park in the first parking area. Walk a short distance up the road and you will see the trail leading to the right. Follow the yellow trail markers. Another great day for a hike! Partly cloudy and cool with temperatures ranging from 42 to 55 F. WILDFLOWERS IN BLOOM: Yellowroot, Toothwort, Halberd-leafed Violet, Yellow Round-leafed Violet, Bird’s-foot Violet, Lobed Violet, Purple Violet, Dwarf Iris, Crested Dwarf Iris, Trailing Arbutus, Rue Anemone, Robin’s Plantain, Pussytoes, Jack-in-the-Pulpit, Bellwort, Serviceberry, Barren Strawberry ,Dogwood, Star Chickweed, Sweetshrub, and Huckleberry. BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Black and White Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Pileated Woodpecker, Cardinal, Carolina Wren, American Crow, and Carolina Chickadee. |
