Bartram Trail – Warwoman Dell – Pinnacle Knob, GA

Today’s hike was on the Bartram Trail in Rabun County, GA from Warwoman Dell to Pinnacle Knob and back.

TRAIL INFO. – A beautiful segment of the Bartram Trail and today’s hike included the steep side-trail up to Pinnacle Knob for spectacular mountain views. A great wildflower day with 43 species! The hike is mostly moderate difficulty until the climb up Pinnacle which is strenuous. Total distance is 7.5 miles

Directions: Take Highway 884 East (Warwoman Road) from Clayton, GA for 5 miles or so and look for the Warwoman Dell sign on the right and turn right and park in the first parking area. Walk a short distance up the road and you will see the trail leading to the right. Follow the yellow trail markers.

Another great day for a hike! Fair changing to partly cloudy and mild with temperatures ranging from 60 to 75 degrees F.

Distance hiked – 7.5 miles.

WILDFLOWERS IN BLOOM: 43 species! Catesby’s Trillium, Vasey’s Trillium, Jack-in-Pulpit, Doghobble, Foamflower, Hooked Buttercup, Purple Violet, Stemmed Violet, Halberd-leafed Violet, Birdfoot Violet, Sweet White Violet, Rue Anemone, Wood Anemone, Heart-leaf Golden Alexander, Meadow Rue, Robin’s Plantain, Rattlesnake Plantain, Frazier Magnolia, Dogwood, Wild Ginger (2 kinds), Indian Cucumber, Solomon’s Seal, False Solomon’s Seal, Blackberry, Buckberry Yellow Star Grass, Sweetshrub, Pinxter Flower, Yellowroot, Dwarf Iris, Fringed Dwarf Iris, Barren Strawberry, Green and Gold, Tall Bluet, Bluet, Fringe Tree Lily-of-the- valley, Pussytoes, Hawkweed, Wild Geranium, and Cinquefoil.

BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Robin, Cardinal, Brown Thrasher, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Blue Jay, Tufted Titmouse, American Crow, Pileated Woodpecker, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Ovenbird, Black-and-white Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Hooded Warbler, Louisiana Waterthrush and Dark-eyed Junco.
