Tallulah Gorge Trails – GA

TRAIL INFO. – Tallulah Gorge State Park has lots of hiking trail options. Today, we hiked the Shortline Trail which follows the old Tallulah Falls Railroad bed. Then we hiked the Terrora Trails – Upper Loop and Lake Loop. Then we hiked over to the gorge and did the South Rim and North Rim Trails. Breathtaking views were the order of the day!

TODAY’S HIKERS: John Bellamy, June Bellamy, Phil Brownrigg, Dave Hinson, Bill Hunt, Mike Jones, Greta Driggers, Jim Driggers, Dave Hinson, Clay Masur, Nancy Masur, Dick Metzgar, Donna Presley, Tony Presley, Vic Robson, Dan Ross and Carole Wintle.

Total hiking distance today – 7.5 miles with lots of flat walking and a steep gorge staircase walk for those who did it. Difficulty rating – moderately easy except for the staircase.

DIRECTIONS: Tallulah Gorge State Park is about 10 miles south of Clayton, GA on Highway 441. For the Sortline trail, turn to the right at the traffic light in Tallualah Falls (if coming from the north) then turn right and cross the old lake bridge and immediately turn right up the hill to the Shortliine Trail parking lot.

Another great day for a hike! Mostly sunny and cool with temperatures ranging from the mid 50’s to the low 60’s F.

WILDFLOWERS IN BLOOM: Tall Goldenrod, blue Aster, Bushy Aster, Maryland Aster and Carolina Rhododendron.
OTHER FAUNA – Grey Squirrel

BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Crow, Chickadee, Nuthatch, Pileated Woodpecker, White Throated Sparrow and Junco.
