Bartram Trail – Warwoman Dell – Pinnacle Knob, GA

Today’s hike was on the Bartram Trail in Rabun County, GA from Warwoman Dell to Pinnacle Knob and back.

HIKERS – Karen Brown, Greta Driggers, Jim Driggers, Pam Euliss, Dick Metzgar, Bruce O’Connor, Jeanne O’Connor, Donna Presley, Tony Presley, John Ray, Pom Sinnock, Geri Whitaker and Carole Wintle.

TRAIL INFO. – A beautiful segment of the Bartram Trail and today’s hike included the steep side-trail up to Pinnacle Knob for spectacular mountain views. A great time of year for wildflowers on this trail! The hike is mostly moderate difficulty until the climb up Pinnacle which is very strenuous. Total distance is 8 miles

Directions: Take Highway 884 East (Warwoman Road) from Clayton, GA for 5 miles or so and look for the Warwoman Dell sign on the right and turn right and park in the first parking area. Walk a short distance up the road and you will see the trail leading to the right. Follow the yellow trail markers.

Another great day for a hike! Partly cloudy and mild with temperatures ranging from 64 to 72 degrees F.

Distance hiked – 8 miles.

WILDFLOWERS IN BLOOM: Golden Alexander, Rue Anemone, Pinkster Azalea, Small Bellfower, Hooked Buttercup, Star Chickweed, Florida Dogwood, Foam Flower, Green and Gold, Dog Hobble, Iris Cristata, Iris Verna, Jack in the Pulpit, Robin’s Plantain, Tulip Poplar, Pussytoes, Rattlesnake Weed, Solomon’s Plume, Yellow Stargrass, Barren Strawberry, Catesby’s Trillium, Vasey’s Trillium, Birdsfoot Violet, Halberd-leafed Violet, Sweet White Violet, and Purple Violet,

BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Chipping Sparrow, American Crow, Ovenbird, Cardinal, Black & White Warbler, Red Eyed Vireo, Hooded Warbler, Black Throated Green Warbler, Vultures, Eastern Towhee, Dark Eyed Junco, Titmouse
