Today’s hike was on the Lake Russell Trails in the Lake Russell Recreation Area in Habersham County, GA.

HIKERS – Wayne Barrios, John Bellamy, Karen Brown, Phil Brownrigg, Pam Euliss, Stephen Gales, Dave Hinson, Bob Magee, Dick Metzgar, Dave Norton, Mary Lu Norton, Tony Presley, Vic Robson, Pom Sinnock and Geri Whitaker.

TRAIL INFO. – The Lake Russell Loop is a very nice 4.6 mi. hike around the lake. The hike is rolling but mostly flat. Today, the trail had an unusual number of blowdowns across the trail but they were manageable. The total mileage hiked today was 6 miles including an alternate path.

Directions: The Lake Russell Recreation Area is off the Dicks Hill Parkway East of Cornelia, at Mt. Airy, GA near the railroad bridge, turn onto the Lake Russell Recreation Area access road. Drive about 2.5 miles to the parking lot at Nancytown Lake.

Another great day for a hike! Cloudy and cool. Temperatures in the low to mid 40’s F. Total distance – 6 mi.

FLOWERS IN BLOOM: None.

BIRDS IDENTIFIED:Turkey Vultures, Canada Geese, White Peking Show Ducks, Cardinal, Carolina Wren, Carolina Chickadee, Robins and White-breasted Nuthatch.
