April 8, 2014

Today’s hike was on the Chattooga River Trail hiking from the Highway 28 bridge(SC side) to Licklog Creek and Pigpen Falls and back. 8.4 mi. round trip.

HIKERS – Wayne Barrios, John Bellamy, June Bellamy, Karen Brown, Pam Euliss, Stephen Gales, Greta Driggers, Jim Driggers, Jeanne O’Connor, Tony Presley and Geri Whitaker.

TRAIL INFORMATION – One of our favorites for beautiful views of the Chattooga River especially taking the lower trail portion for the first half of the hike. The Falls are also very nice. This trail has lots of flat walking and we rate the difficulty mostly easy.

Directions: The Highway 28 (Russell) Bridge is located on SC highway 28 between Walhalla, SC and Highlands, NC. The Chattooga River is the border river of GA/SC. From Clayton, GA take Warwoman Road and drive to the intersection of Highway 28 and turn right and go to the SC side of the 28 bridge and the parking lot is on the left. Approx. 14-15 miles from Clayton.

Another great day for a hike! Cloudy and cool with some brief sprinkles – temperatures ranging from 55 to 62 degrees F. Hiking distance – 8.4 miles.
