The Bartram Trail from Courthouse Gap to Martin Creek Falls – Rabun County, GA

Today’s hike was on the Bartram Trail in Rabun County, GA from Courthouse Gap to beautiful Martin Creek Falls and back.

HIKERS – John Anderson, Phil Brownrigg, Ray Clark, Joe Collins, Greta Driggers, Jim Driggers, Tim Hale, Bill Hunt, Bob Magee, Tony Presley and Vic Robson.

TRAIL INFO. – The trailhead today was on Courthouse Gap Rd. parking underneath the power lines.

Directions: Travel north on Hwy 441 for 2.5 miles and turn right onto Pinnacle Dr. Continue on Pinnacle for 2.7 miles and turn left onto Courthouse Gap Rd. and continue until you get to the big powerline cut and park there. Wslk up the road a quarter mile or so and look for the access trail on the left.

Another great day for a hike! Partly cloudy and mild. Temperatures in the mid 60’s F warming into the mid 70’s. Total distance – 5 mi.

BLOOMING PLANTS: Buttercups, Solomon’s Seal, Yellow Star Grass, Blackberries, Tulip Poplar, Partridge Berry, Mountain Laurel, Oxeye Daisy, Black-eyed Susan, Venus Looking Glass, Meadow Rue, Flowering Spurge, Jack-in-the-Pulpit, Galax, Rattlesnake Weed, Wild Ginger and Spider Wort.

BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Red-Winged Blackbird, Black and White Warbler, American Crow, Towhee, Oven Bird, Black-Throated Green Warbler, Pileated Woodpecker, Nuthatch, Junco, Pine Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Blue-Headed Vireo.

After about .8 miles, we arrive at Courthouse Gap on the Bartram Trail.

Turning right and walking another quarter mile or so, we come to the intersection with the Pinnacle Knob Trail.

We encounter a few blowdowns but none were too difficult to get by.
