Today’s hike was on the Kimsey Creek Trail in NC from Standing Indian Campground to the Appalachian Trail at Deep Gap. HIKERS: Clark Adams, Mike Bell, Suzanne Bellflower, John Bellamy, June Bellamy, Phil Brownrigg, Joe Collins, Greta Driggers, Jim Driggers, Pam Euliss, Angela Evans, Dick Metzgar, Jeanne O’Connor, Terre Pratt, and Vic Robson. TRAIL INFO. – The Kimsey Creek Trail is nice hike starting in Standing Indian Campground and following along Kimsey Creek The trail is a connector trail to the Appalachian Trail at Deep Gap near Standing Indian Mountain. 8.5 mile round trip Directions: Take US 64 west from Franklin approximately 12 miles passing thru Winding Stair Gap. Near the bottom of the mountain from the gap, you will turn left on West Old Murphy Road (SR 1448). There is a directional sign for the campground there. Go 1.9 miles and turn right on Forest Development Road 67 at the Standing Indian Campgound sign. This is a paved road. Go 1.7 miles and turn right into Standing Indian Campgound. The parking lot is on the left just across from the campground store and permit station. Another great day for a hike! Mostly sunny and cool with temperatures ranging from the low 50’s to the mid 60’s F. WILDFLOWERS IN BLOOM: White Snakeroot, Spotted Jewellweed, Pale Jewellweed, Crimson Clover, Red Bee Balm, Indian Plantain, Wood Aster, Goldenrod, Hawk Weed and Angelica. BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Crow, Blue Jay, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Junco, Chickadee, Cardinal, Vireo. OTHER FAUNA: Black Bear
