Today’s hike was on the White Twister Trail and a portion of the Stonewall Falls Trail, GA. HIKERS – Mike Bell, Joe Collins, Tim Hale, Gary King, Ray Lovett, Bob Magee, Dick Metzgar, Trushna Nadig, Jeanne O’Connor, Terre Pratt, Tony Presley, Vic Robson, Betty Smith. TRAIL INFO. – The White Twister Trail and the Stonewall Trail are Mountain Bike and Hiking trails in Rabun County, GA. Today’s hike was on the White Twister Loop and a portion of the Stonewall Trail. Trail conditions were excellent with no obstructions at all. Directions: Coming from the south, take 441 North until you pass the Chattooga River Ranger District Office (9975 Hwy 441 S.). Go another 2-3 miles until Rabun County High School is seen on the right hand side of the road, and immediately look to the left for Boggs Mountain Connector. Take this road to it’s first intersection (almost immediate) and turn left onto Old 441. Take your second right onto FS Rd. 20 (also Stone Wall Rd.). Continue straight on dirt road until you see the falls and dispersed camping on your left. Trails begin just past the falls on the right. Another great day for a hike! Fair and cool. Temperatures from 38 to 48 F. Total distance – 5.5 mi. rolling hills. FLOWERS IN BLOOM: Trailing Arbutus, Dwarf Iris Verna, Pussytoes and Halberd-leaf Yellow Violet. BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Red-bellied Woodpecker, White-breasted Nuthatch, Carolina Wren, Tufted Titmouse, Blue Jay.
