Bartram Trail – Highway 28 Bridge Southward – Rabun Co. GA

Today’s hike was on the Bartram Trail in Rabun Co. GA from the Highway 28 bridge southward beyond Adeline Ford.

HIKERS: Jenny Bell, Mike Bell, Renee Corbett, Tim Hale, Lynn Hotle, Beth McDonald, Bob Magee, Dick Metzgar, Edwin Pruitt and Vic Robson.

DIRECTIONS – From Walhalla, SC take Hwy 28 north for ~16 miles, crossing into Georgia at the Russel Bridge at the GA-SC border over the Chattooga River.  Shortly after crossing the Russel Bridge is a parking area on the right side of the Hwy 28.  From Clayton, Georgia, take Warwoman Road eastbound for ~14 miles.  Turn right onto Hwy 28 south and travel ~2.2 miles to the parking area on your left which is north of Russel Bridge.

TRAIL INFO. – This is a very nice portion of the Bartram Trail. The trail crosses the West Fork of the Chattooga River on a nice iron bridge and continues parallel to the Chattooga on mostly flat terrain with a side trail on the old Adeline Ford Road.

Another great day for a hike!  Partly sunny, low humidity and cool with temperatures ranging from 65-72 F. Total mileage was 8.0 miles.

FLORA: Gentian and numerous types of mushrooms.
