Tugaloo State Park Hike, GA

This week’s hike was on the trails at Tugaloo State Park near Lavonia, GA.

HIKERS: Phil Brownrigg, Ray Clark, Renee Corbett, Tim Hale, Bob Magee, Beth McDonald, Trushna Nadig, Tony Presley and Vic Robson.

TRAIL INFO. – Tugaloo State Park offers plenty of hiking opportunites with the Sassafras Circle Trail, Muscadine Trail, Crow Tree Nature Trail along with the park roads between campgrounds and picnic areas. Nice views of Lake Hartwell are found all along the trails. Lake Hartwell has an amazing 962 miles of shoreline situated on the border of Georgia and South Carolina.

Distance hiked today – 4.3 miles – difficulty level – Moderately easy with only a couple of strenuous hills .

Directions: Take Highway 17 south from Toccoa for about 8 mi. and turn left on GA 328 (Gumlog RD). Continue for about 5 miles then turn left onto Tugaloo State Park Rd. and continue for 2.7 miles to the park office.

Another great day for a hike! Mostly fair and cool. Temp: in the mid 30’s to low 40 degrees F.

BIRDS IDENTIFIED: BLUE JAY, CROW, DOWNY WOODPECKER, CAROLINA CHICKADEE, WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH.

Other fauna: Grey Squirrels
