Name: Bartram Trail - Willis Knob Section
Distance: 6.2
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Total Climbing Elevation: 981
Type: Out & Back
Notes: Good weather and a nice turnout of 15 hikers today. We accessed the Bartram Trail via the Willis Horse Trail where it crosses the southwest stretch of Willis Knob Rd. While the Willis Horse Trail was a bit muddy in a couple of places the Bartram Trail was in very good condition on a generally soft path. We did encounter two fallen trees across the trail with one being quite recent and large requiring us to climb the bank above it to go around it. Not a lot to see today with no real vistas or waterfalls and few wildflowers. However, we did have a nice overhead canopy of trees and an occasional breeze to keep us reasonably cool amid high humidity. There are a couple of uphill climbs requiring a bit of extra effort, but overall, not a tough hike. I would rate this hike easy to moderate in difficulty. In retrospect, we could have accessed this section of the Bartram Trail from Earl's Ford Rd which would have put the first part of the hike along Warwoman Creek. Something to think about next time.
