Name: High Shoals Falls and Unicoi Lake Trails
Distance: 5.4
Difficulty: Easy
Total Climbing Elevation: 768
Type: Out and Back then Loop
Notes: Another summer day with sunny skies and temperatures between 75 degrees&85 degrees. We did have high cover over the trails so it wasn't unbearably hot. We visited both the Blue Hole and High Shoals Falls. Both are quite beautiful. Access to the trailhead is via Indian Grave Gap Road. We easily forded the Hiwassee River which was not high, but are known to be quite variable. The High Shoals Trail is well maintained and heavily making it quite rooty and rocky in many places. There are several nice wooden bridges to cross the High Shoals Creek and other drainages. It is worth the time to take this short hike. We added to our mileage by hiking the Unicoi Lake Trail. This is a pleasant 2-mile loop, again under hight tree cover. These easy hikes were quite nice on an otherwise hot day.
