Name: Reedy Branch Falls
Distance: 0.4
Difficulty: Easy
Total Climbing Elevation: 49
Type: Out & Back
Notes: This was a bonus hike today suggested by Dick Metzgar on our way back from hiking the Winding Stairs Trail. Jenny did a little research and found a short article on it on the discoversouthcarolina.com web site which said, "the property was going to be developed for home sites, only the US Forest Service bought it before the first house was ever built." Anyway, it's a very short hike through the rock-walled gate to the waterfalls which are really beautiful coming off a 30-foot mini-canyon wall surrounding it. The recent and historical heavy rains have really washed out a lot of the area below the falls including a former vehicle bridge across Reedy Branch leading to the now drained pond downstream. However, it does appear that one could rock-hop across Reedy Branch to continue a hike toward the former pond. There is a newly constructed bridge across Reedy Branch above the washout which allows access to the falls. A nice short walk if you have limited time or are abilities. Definitely worth the stop and walk.
