Notes: This was an early winter day with clear skies, temperatures in the lower 30's and light winds on most of the trail except on the overlook where the winds were fairly strong. We decided to extend our hike today by beginning at the Trading Post and hike the Springhouse Trail to the Tennessee Rock Loop Trail. We also hiked down to Ada-Hi Falls. The trails were dry and in fair condition, but a bit slippery in places with the recently dropped fall leaves. The trail does show its heavy usage and appears to have received little to no maintenance over the past several years with several old downed trees not having been cut and washed-out steps. There is also a particularly dangerous 100-foot section of the trail on the northwest corner of the Tennessee Rock Trail having been worn away creating a very narrow and angled ledge downward across a steep slope. The view to the north of the Tennessee Valley and mountains from the observation point is excellent with some continuing fall colors not quite at their peak. The hike down to Ada-Hi Falls is challenging, but the falls were just a trickle today with little rain over the past 5 weeks. Overall this is an easy hike with just a few challenges from steep sections and inadequate trail maintenance.
